Pompeii is a visualization of the great city it once was and how nature’s fury destroyed it.

We all know of the famous Pompeii ruins that lie outside of Naples, a flourishing city that was buried and destroyed with the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. The movie visualizes the prelude to this cataclysmic event and of the end of one of the most advanced civilizations.

The trailer depicts a grand city that lies under the shadow of a barely dormant volcano. In this backdrop is the story of Milo, a young slave-turned-gladiator who must battle various foes in the Coliseum to stay alive, and to save the love of his life Cassia. Kit Harrington of the Game of Thrones fame plays Milo, while Emily Browning from Sucker Punch plays Cassia. Kiefer Sutherland of 24 also makes an appearance as the villain who has murdered Milo’s family some years ago.

The city has been recreated beautifully and the impending doom caused by the volcano is fiery and gut wrenching.  You can feel the tumult and the horror that the residents must have felt as they are pelted by flaming rocks and flooded by the raging sea with nowhere to run.  Will the protagonists survive nature’s wrath? Find out when the movie hits theaters in February 2014.
