Tom Cruise getting ducks in row for MI5Jul 01st 0
When Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol was all said and done it had grossed $679 million worldwide. That kind of makes it eligible for a sequel. Oh, go on guys, give us another one. Viacom CEO is sticking with what works and have announced a Mission: Impossible 5 is in fact in the works.
While the franchise looked on the wane after the third film, Ghost Protocol really gave it a much-needed jab which makes us think the fifth film should be tacked on as more of a sequel than the next film in a long line of installments. Without the same cast we’re not sure how the studio will play it.
Ghost Protocol director Brad Bird and writers Josh Applebaum and André Nemec haven’t been confirmed, with reports that Paramount are eyeing Jack Reacher director Christopher McQuarrie for the top post. His work with Tom Cruise has been well lauded and the actor is keen to work with him again (they also collaborated on WWII film Valkyrie and All You Need Is Kill). McQuarrie has, however, been in talks to direct Unforgiven, the feature adaptation of a UK miniseries – a project he has been a part of getting off the ground since 2010.
With casting and final crew remaining to be seen, we can rest assured Cruise is keeping well on top of everything M:I5, producing as well as starring.
